Monday Lilyo posted

I've just posted Monday Lilyo. This office has particularly beautiful typologies.

As a brief introduction to the office, I will just pick two of the typologies present. The first is a Marian typology (from the First Watch) drawing on several different Old Testament events, such as the stone in Daniel's vision that was cut but not by human hands (which is an obvious allusion to Mary being divinely blessed) and the fleece of Gideon which miraculously collected dew (in a similar way, Mary miraculously held the divine dew of mercy that quenched the thirst of sin).

Mary resembles the ark of the covenant, the jug of manna and the divine veil. In it was placed testimony of God Almighty like Mary who carried Him who is the Son.

Wise Solomon spoke in parables of her as the new garden from which sprung the Tree of Life, Lord Jesus. Isaiah called her the cloud that gave the dew of life and Daniel the select, uncut stone.

She is the holy city and also the divine veil in which the waters of life were bound in the image of Adam. In the glorious fleece of Gideon the judge she was represented in that from her rose the rain that quenched the thirst of Adam.

The second typology (from the Glory of the Youths) I will point to is one of the salvation of Israel to the salvation of the world, and the revelation of the Father through the prophets and the Son through His own dispensation. In the first deliverance,  Israel is receiving temporal salvation from their oppressors, where in the later the world is being saved from the eternal oppression of sin.

From Mount Sinai the Father sent the covenant to the people so that they may be delivered from the tyranny of the Egyptians. From the Mount of Olives the Son of God sent the new covenant to the peoples so that they may be delivered by His cross. The watchers and men glorify Him and say, “Bless Him.”
Our Lord, accept our service, our prayers, come to our aid and have mercy on us!
