Where the Syriac tradition lacks the systematic precision of the Latin tradition, it more than makes up for it in the wealth of typologies that convey a deep intimacy with Scripture and continuity between the Old Covenant and the New. The invocation of the offering of Abel, or the typology between the cross and Noah's ark is very indicative of this. While the Latin tradition has come to abandon [almost entirely] the veneration of the Old Testament figures, the Syriac tradition retains the frequent Semitic invocation of the Patriarchs such as Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
He is established in the shelter of the High and in the shadow of God is glorified.
Our Lord, accept our service, our prayers, come to our aid and have mercy on us!Accept, our Lord, our ministration and prayers like the offering of Abel was accepted. As You sheltered righteous Noah by the ark shelter us, Lord, by the arms of the cross. Hallelujah! Pass over us plagues and the severe rod full of chastisement. He says to the Lord: my trust, my house of refugee, the God in whom I trust who will deliver you from the snares of offense and from the vain speech.Lord, our Lord, in the image of the publican I cry out and like the sinful woman I supplicate You. Forgive my debts and blot out the sins I have committed as You forgave these their debts. Hallelujah! I profess You concerning Your goodness, Son of God, who came for our salvation. In His feathers He will deliver you and under His wings you will be sheltered; the armament of His justice will gird you. You will not have dread from the dread of night nor from the arrow that flies in the day nor from the word that walks in darkness nor from the spirit that ruins at noontime.Lord, our Lord, the sinful woman called to You in tears and clamorous groans. You remitted her debts and sins in the abundance of Your mercy and gave hope to all penitents. Hallelujah! Like her, forgive our debts, Son of God, who came for our salvation.A thousand will fall from your side and ten thousand from your right and towards you they shall not come near but with your eyes alone you will perceive; you will perceive what has been set apart for the lawless.Woe is me who became estranged to You, our Lord, by provoking You through the abundance of my crimes. Lo! Keep me from great lamenting, groans and Gehenna that awaits and gazes at me. Hallelujah! Do not let Your servant enter into judgment in which he will be unable to be justified before You all his life.Because You are He who is the Lord, my trust; You have placed Your abode in the Heights. Evil will not come near to You and plague shall not come near to Your tabernacle.Lord, our Lord, on the great in which You will come to pass judgment on all mankind forgive me in Your mercy. Do not remember my failings in the same mercy of the one who sent You to our race. Hallelujah! I have eaten Your body and drank Your blood, Lord – may I not become food for the fire.Because He will command His angels concerning you to keep you in all your ways; upon their arms they will bear you up so that you do not stumble in your footing. Upon the viper and basilisk you will tread and you will trample the lion and the dragon.Lord, our Lord, accept the ministration of Your servants and quickly hear the voice of their petition. Send Your tranquility and peace to the four quarters and bless, in Your mercy, the circle of the year. Hallelujah! Pass over us plagues and the severe rod full of chastisement.Because he seeks me I will deliver him and I will strengthen him because he knows my name. I am with him in tribulation: I will strengthen him and honor him. With length of days I will satisfy him and I will show him my salvation.Blessed are you, the pure and holy Virgin Mary, who was worthy to be the Mother of God, carry and be exalted by He whom heaven is filled with and whom the fiery watchers are unable to look upon. Hallelujah! May your prayers be a rampart to us and with you may we inherit life and the kingdom.Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit from now until the age of ages, Amen.Glory be to the Father upon whose hope the blessed martyrs, clothed in victory, are slain. Adoration be to the Son who infused His power into your bones, who honors and magnifies the day of your feasts. Hallelujah! Praise be to the Holy Spirit who wove the crowns and placed them on your heads.Grant rest to the departed believers and to You be glory, Lord. With Abraham, the just Isaac and Jacob, the elect and true fathers, grant remembrance to the departed who have eaten Your body, drank Your blood and have fallen asleep in Your hope. Hallelujah! May they see Your compassion in the house of judgment and may they go out to meet Your openly.
