Sooghito from the Safro of the Assumption

I've been making good headway with the Safro of the Assumption and I'm more than halfway complete. Although the sooghito of an office are generally 22 short lines they are the perfect introduction to the hoosoyo because they provide an apt summary for the theological context and importance of what is being celebrate, which is then fully explained in the hoosoyo.

The time has arrived for the Blessed One to go out from this world.

She is the pure palace in which the exalted Lord dwelt. Her departure has arrived.

The day of her departure was revealed to His Birth-Giver like to Moses the son of Levites.

The Blessed Virgin feared when she heard the tidings of death.

This moved the Holy Spirit very much on the day of her departure.

And the Lord commanded the watchers on high to descend to her and accompany her.

Gabriel arose with Michael to honor her pure body.

The power of the Spirit went out through creation and gathered the apostolic company.

They flew from every place in the blink of an eye for they were impelled by the hidden will.

The day of the departure of the Blessed One they came in the blink of an eye.

The ranks of fathers assembled that had fallen asleep long ago

To honor she who was honored by God at the moment of her death.

The air was full of cheerfulness and amazement, flashing light and they were expecting her

All the souls that went out to meet her and the glorious prophetic ranks.

The Bridal Chamber of Light and the trees of Paradise longed to greet her

Concerning those who saw the pure Mother whose soul departed from her body.

Heaven on high opened before her its exalted gates through which she entered.

The air was split by an expanse of light and it gave her place to be borne up in it.

Emmanuel received her soul and placed her in the place full of felicity.

Great was her Assumption and hidden were the hosts that served before her.

The sun and the moon bowed before her while she was entering through the gates on high.

Heaven was astonished and the earth trembled on the day of the departure of she who is full of holiness.

Let us all say every morning glory to You of many mercies:

And let us say at every moment your prayers are with us, Mother of our Lord.

To the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit may we raise glory at every moment:

For His unspeakable gift to the age of ages. Amen and amen.
