One interesting thing to be noted (in addition to the attribution of certain actions to the Son) is that one of the verses reads, "He
saved the peoples from the subjugation of sin by His birth." Every action Jesus undertook was an act of salvation - often in contemporary Western theology, the salvific act is relegated to the crucifixion. That is not, however, the Byzantine or Syriac approach to salvation. Even the act of Jesus's incarnation brought salvation, and Jesus, according to the Syriac Fathers, would have become incarnate even if Adam had not sinned because such is the great love God has for His people. The moment Christ was born, we were saved. However, the further soteriological acts that Christ undertook, such as His circumcision, baptism, instruction, Last Supper, passion, crucifixion, descent into Sheol and resurrection were for granting His sinful servants a status greater than He gave Adam.
