Glory of the Three Youths

This is the first opportunity I've gotten to translate in a while. Below is the full text of the opening Qolo of the fourth watch of Sunday's Lilyo. It has a few verses of typology, as well as intercessory verses.

Bless the Lord all you His works of the Lord.

Let us hear Paul when he says, “Awake, you who sleep; rise and glorify for the glorious effulgence, He who is of the eternal Father, illumines you all. Let us be spiritually girded in the breastplate of faith and trample the fiery arrows of the evil enemy.” Bless Him.

Heaven, the angels of the Lord and the waters above heaven, bless the Lord.

On Sunday the written hymns of King David were fulfilled: “lift up your heads, gates, and be lifted up, eternal gates.” For lo! the Messiah enters through you to the hidden place of His Parent so that He may return the captive from the hands of greedy death. Bless Him.

Hosts of the Lord, the sun and the moon, the stars in heaven, rain and dew, and all things with breath, bless the Lord.

On Sunday our Lord will come to raise up creation. From on high will come the spiritual Jerusalem and trumpets will resound with sweet, melodious voices and the adorable Son will be glorified with His Parent. Bless Him.

Night and day, light and dark, cold and hot, snow and ice, bless the Lord.

On Sunday the Church saw You, and blessed and worshipped Your cross. In a loud voice she said, “Come in peace, save my children from the error of idols and return them to the path of life where they shall rejoice with the just and the righteous. Bless Him.

Lightning and clouds, land of the Lord, mountains and hills, and all things that grow upon the Earth, bless the Lord.

On Sunday Moses established the Tabernacle for the House of Jacob in which they offered sacrifice so that the people would not perish. On Sunday the Holy, believing Church-bride was espoused to our Lord, whose precious blood ransomed her. Bless Him.

Seas and rivers, springs of water, and fish, and all things that swarm the waters and fly through the sky, bless the Lord.

May good remembrance be to Moses, head of the prophets, who by his staff divided the sea and the people crossed on dry land. He allowed the sea to return and imperious Pharaoh, who followed after them, was swallowed up. Between the waves he silenced him and all his host. Bless Him.

Wild beasts and all beasts of burden, and all mankind upon the land of Israel, priests of the Lord, servant of the Lord, bless the Lord.

May good remembrance be to John, son of Zechariah, who baptized the Son of God in the Jordan, the great river. He heard the Father when He called out from on high, “this is my beloved” and he beheld he Spirit rest upon His head like a dove. Bless Him.

Souls and spirits of the righteous and guileless ones of meek heart, Hananiah, Azariah, Mishael and Daniel, bless the Lord.

May good remembrance be to Hananiah, Azariah, Mishael and Daniel, servants of the Living God, who quenched the fire of the furnace kindled by their adversaries, shamed the king and shut the mouths of the lions. Bless Him.

Prophets, apostles, martyrs and confessors, churches and monasteries, and all who stand in the house of the Lord, bless the Lord.

From the House of David and Abraham the Creator elected the Virgin. His hidden power dwelt in her by the might of the Holy Spirit. He dwelt in her for nine months and prepared for Himself a body from hers. She bowed and begot without a man and without coition. Bless Him.

We bless, glorify, worship and confess the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit from now until the age of ages. Amen.

Martyrs who resemble eagles and are swifter than air, who, when called at sea, answer and who, on dry land, come when He calls to You in a place of desolation. The Messiah answer you and will have you inherit the bridal chamber, the garden and the kingdom. Bless Him.

Grant rest to the departed, and to You be glory, Lord.

May good remembrance be to the holy fathers, prophets, apostles, martyrs, beloved of the Son, and our fathers and superiors separated from us and the world. May the Messiah inscribe their memorial in the book of life. Bless Him.

Our Lord, accept our service, our prayers, come to our aid and have mercy on us!

  1. Dude, you're a God-send! As a lay Oblate of the Maronite Monks of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I've been pining for an English translation of ALL the Hours. Thank you very much for your painstaking efforts.
