First Office Mazmooro

Safro gives an example of what a mazmooro is following the Etro of the Hoosoyo. Mazmooro can either refer to the mazmoore of King David (i.e. the canonical Psalms) or this short style of hymn.

The mazmooro is, like most other things, antiphonally chanted. It is simply three short verses. The current liturgical practice is the congregation sings the first verse, the celebrants the second and everyone the third.

The mazmooro of Safro follows the general theme of the office alluding to the great feast that is Sunday - commemorative of creation, the resurrection and the apocalypse that is to come.

Glory be to the Good One who rose from the grave on the third day and did not see corruption. He rose the body of Adam with Him, led him and rose to His Sender.

On the day of Sunday, our Lord will come from the lofty dwellings of His Father. He will resurrect the children of Adam and requite each man for what he has done.

The day of Sunday is a glorious feast of which heaven and earth rejoice in. Let all of us glorify the First-Born of the Father, who saved us from deception.
Our Lord, accept our service, our prayers, come to our aid and have mercy on us!
