Holy are You, Lover of Mankind

I'm drawing near to completing the Safro  of Sunday. The last qolo of the office is to the melody of Qadishat Rohem Nosho (Holy are You, Lover of Mankind). This qolo takes the trisagion (the one prayed before every office and at every liturgy - Holy are You, God, Holy are You, Strong One, Holy are You, Immortal One) and expands it by singing the glory of God relating to His compassion.


Before I present the qolo's text below, I just find it a point of interest to note that the Syriac trisagion is addressed directly to God (as in Holy are You) whereas the Greek trisagion is Holy is [the] God (Ἅγιος ὁ Θεός). There's a silly Greek and Latin contention that Christological trisagions (i.e. those directed specifically to the person of Jesus) are heretical but these are common amongst Oriental Churches - including the Maronite Church and this qolo is an example of it (since it was specifically Jesus who descended into Sheol to restore our worn-out nature, as will be seen below).

Holy are You, God, who in His compassion willed and renewed our worn-out nature in Sheol. Holy are You, Strong One, whose love compelled Him and He whitened and wiped away our blemishes through His goodness. Holy are You, Immortal God, who gave us life  and cleansed us of material desire.

Glory be to You, Lord, for Your love towards our race. By Your compassion, sinners obtained remission of debts. You willed the Church and her children and their pure companionship. Lo! We worship and supplicate You at all times. Bestow, Our Lord, forgiveness upon all debtors who ask for the remission of their sins. Make us all worthy to stand on Your right and we will sing glory to Your goodness for the age of ages – Lord, to You be glory.

Our Lord, accept our service, our prayers, come to our aid and have mercy on us!
