Ramsho of Monday Qolo

I have begun translation of the Ramsho of Sunday. The opening Qolo is one of my favorite Syriac hymns and, in fact, is the first Syriac hymn I learned. It is a beautiful Qolo that asks God for mercy at the inevitable judgment.
Very much in line with Syriac theology, this Qolo acknowledges the inevitable eschatological events of the Apocalypse and Final Judgment. It also recognizing human flaws as many of the verses ask that before a certain event occurs and, implicitly, leads to our damnation we ask for the mercy of the Lord. The second and fourth verses (not including psalmic verses) are very reminiscent of the bridesmaids who come try to return to the Bridegroom's house after initially coming ill-prepared and needing to retrieve oil. The Bridegroom responses by saying "I do not know you" (Matthew 25:11-12). In the same way those who come ill-prepared to Judgment will say "Lord, Lord!" and will receive the denial Christ forewarns in several other gospel accounts (Luke 13:25-27, Matthew 7:21-23).

Have mercy on me, God, according to Your goodness and according to the multitude of Your mercies blot out my sins

Hallelujah! Before my debts come with me into the house of judgment and I am ashamed as they stand with me at judgment have mercy on me Lord who is full of mercy.

Intensely wash me from my unrighteousness and from my sins cleanse me because my follies I know and my sins are in front of me always

Before Your door is shut in my face, Son of God, and I become fodder for the live flames of Gehenna have mercy on me Lord who is full of mercy.

To You alone I have sinned and before You I have done evil because You shall be right in Your word and shall conquer in Your judgments because in iniquity I was borne and in sins my mother conceived me

Before the wheel of time is rolled off the well and broken is the waterpot of the spring of every generation have mercy on me Lord who is full of mercy.

But You have willed in truth and hidden things of Your wisdom You have made known to me. Sprinkle me with Your hyssop and I am cleansed; purify me with it and I shall be whiter than snow

Before the hypocrites say, “Our Lord, our Lord,” and You answer them, “I do not know who you are,” have mercy on me Lord who is full of mercy.

Fill me with Your delight and joy, and my lowly bones will rejoice. Turn Your face from my sins and all my follies blot out

Before the hosts go out before the Son of the King and they gather our wretched race before the throne have mercy on me Lord who is full of mercy.

Create in me a pure heart, God, and renew an upright spirit within me; do not cast me from before You and take not Your Holy Spirit from me

Before the dust returns to the earth and becomes dirt, and all beautiful forms decay in the ground have mercy on me Lord who is full of mercy.

But return to me Your delight and Your salvation, and Your glorious Spirit will support me I will teach the iniquitous Your road and sinners will return to You

Before the spirit dissipates at the end like upon the Tree and the body responds to pains by beckoning to death have mercy on me Lord who is full of mercy.

Deliver me from blood, my God, God of my salvation and my tongue will glorify Your righteousness. Lord, open for me my lips and my mouth will sing Your praises

Before the sun darkens when it is comely in the heights above may Your light come and chase the gloomy darkness from my mind; have mercy on me Lord who is full of mercy.

Because You did not will sacrifices, nor are You pleased with whole burnt offerings. The sacrifices of God are a lowly spirit; a broken heart God will not reject

Before the sound of a trumpet calls out before Your coming, our Lord Jesus, forgive Your servants who petition You; have mercy on me Lord who is full of mercy.

Do good in Your will to Zion and build the walls of Jerusalem. Then You will be well-pleased in the sacrifices of the true and the whole burnt offerings; then they will raise bulls upon Your altar.

All generations will call blessed the glorious Virgin Mary who was the Mother of the Son of God; have mercy on me Lord who is full of mercy.

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit from now until the age of ages.

The Holy Church shouts glory on the remembrance of the blessed martyrs and honors the feast of their crowning; have mercy on me Lord who is full of mercy.

Grant rest to the departed, and to You be glory, Lord.

To all the departed who have died and hold Your faith, Son of God, clothe them in the robe of glory. Have mercy on us, Lord, and forgive us and our departed.

Let us pray to God for mercy now while He gives us the opportunity rather than take for granted all we have been mercifully given.

Our Lord, accept our service, our prayers, come to our aid and have mercy on us!
